Texture - Page 2 of 11

When we say an object has texture we are usually referring to the roughness or smoothness of the surface of the object, the tactile quality of the surface. We are describing how the object feels to the touch. In works of art texture has two meanings:

1. Physical Texture is the actual tactile quality of a surface, its roughness or smoothness.

2. Illusion of Texture is the illusion of the tactile quality (how something feels to the touch) of the material represented.
